Lapidary Art: Peridot Bank

Peridot is a natural gemstone found in large quantity on an island off of the coast of Egypt. In ancient Egypt the island was known as "Serpent Isle" and the stone as the "gem of the sun". It was to be encased in gold and worn on the left side to dissolve enchantments, evil spirits, and overcome all demons. The peridot bank is for storage of rough stones, The removable top is also a ring which can be worn in travel and holds stones for trade or barter. The dragon is from a calender of Ptolemaic astronomy called the "Astronicun Caesareum", and the etched circular pattern is an alchemists symbol of the four elements. This piece is for protection on journeys in the present, to the future and to the past.2002
